Here are some ways to feel better during eating disorder recovery:
- Ask your therapist or someone you love to take you out on a 1-1 meal.
- Make a list of all of your favorite meals and cook the one that sounds the best. Cooking your own meals or snacks can help make food fun again.
- Fall in love with what food can do for your body. Food is so much more than energy; food can be truly healing to the body.
- Fully enjoy your favorite treats or comfort meals because no matter what, you deserve to enjoy your favorite foods. The ability to enjoy our favorite meal is a luxury.
- Make self-care a ritual you look forward to. Not someone else’s routine off of Instagram.
- Eating disorder recovery can be an extremely emotional time period. You may feel extreme fear, loss, anxiety, and more. Allow yourself to cry.
- Make a recovery vision board. How do you want to feel when you’re recovered? What will your life be like when you’re fully recovered? What do you see for your future?
- Go to bed early. If all else fails and you feel defeated on a day in recovery, call it a night. Sometimes sleep is all we need.
Do more of what makes you feel good in general. Doing things you love is an important part of recovery. Use this time of healing wisely. Eating disorder recovery is an opportunity to rebuild your body, mind, and soul to be stronger than ever before.
