Why Should I Recover?

Why Should I Recover?

Let’s begin with one of the first questions you’ll ask yourself when embarking on the journey of eating disorder recovery: Why should I recover in the first place?

Starting recovery begins with the desire to feel good again.

When you choose to recover you:

  • Stop constantly thinking about food.
  • Move your body because it feels good.
  • Allow yourself as much rest and rejuvenation as you need (rainy movie day anyone?)
  • Look at your body with amazement and gratitude.
  • Join your friends and family for celebrations and eat your favorite foods without a single ounce of guilt.
  • Eat foods that make your body feel good.
  • Can cook and bake again without measuring out your portions and eat to satiation.
  • No longer have extreme hunger.
  • You can sleep well through the entire night.
  • Can focus on school, work, and other projects that are meaningful to you.
  • Have balanced moods.
  • Rediscover your interests and hobbies.
  • Travel again and try new foods from new cultures.
  • Have the energy to be social again.
  • Feel comfortable with your body and intimacy with yourself and your partner.

These are only a few of the reward’s full recovery from an eating disorder will give you. At the end of the day, you have to choose recovery for YOU!
